I'm interested in this year's Santa Con event in NYC on 12/13. Does anybody know who I could contact for organization info?

You may not get a response, but he will no doubt be entertained. Especially if you send him some booze. -

Re: Santa Con NYC
Fri, December 5, 2008 - 4:29 PMSanta Con 2007 in NYC was the biggest and Best so Far- Although everyone started differnt places at different times, everyone met up in Grand Central Station around 1-2 pm.
It was intense-2000 costumed Sants and Mrs Claus's having a blast singing Christmas carols in the middle of Grand Central Station. We all left to go to different places but it was magical seeing eveyone all together there at one time for that hour or so...
This year, Santa Con is going to be bigger then ever. Tthe meeting place has not been announced yet-but a whole lot of us are going to meet up at Grand Central Station on Saturday the 13th around 1 pm or so.
See You all there!!!! -

Re: Santa Con NYC
Sun, December 7, 2008 - 3:30 AMI had fun last year, but nothing has compared to 2005 so far. The snowball fight in Central Park was EPIC. Smaller crowds with more intense chants. Definitely was a huge fan of that year. -

Re: Santa Con NYC
Sun, December 7, 2008 - 10:01 PMSo I just noticed that the text message system isn't gonna happen this year. I noticed that last year, the texts sorta changed the way things ran, but one of the annoying things about '06 was that so many people didn't do the chants, so knowing the next stop was, at times, difficult.
Hope this doesn't happen this year. -

Re: Santa Con NYC

Sun, December 14, 2008 - 7:17 AMIronically enough, his 1pm Grand Central info was right on the money. -

Re: Santa Con NYC
Mon, December 15, 2008 - 8:34 AMironically enough, the 1pm grand central thing kind of fucked up the actual santacon. It was not on the planned route. -

Tue, December 16, 2008 - 2:32 PM>> the 1pm grand central thing kind of fucked up the actual santacon. <<
Mad love to the organizers this year.
I had a feeling no-SMS was going to mess with our Santa world and it kinda did. Had a blast anyway.

Re: Santa Con NYC
Tue, December 16, 2008 - 2:38 PMI know, it wasn't no-SMS per se that caused Santas to run off every which-way.
The situation was more complicated, and I would love to post-mortem and talk tech with Santa about solutions for next year if Santa wants to call me.

Re: Santa Con NYC
Wed, December 17, 2008 - 8:51 AMYeah, Santa seemed a little disjointed this year. Different Santas kept saying different things. I had a blast but felt like i missed some of the amazing santa packed subway riding that I did in the past and what not. I felt like i was continually chasing santa, it now makes sense in view of the fact that I unknowingly went where santa wasn't planning on going. -

Re: Santa Con NYC
Wed, December 17, 2008 - 10:14 AMIt was a blast and I was so happy to run into so many friends!
It would definitely be helpful to have some kind of communication system- either texts or a few predetermined places with approximate arrival times being posted in advance (so even if we fall apart, we can meet up again at the next stop).
It's unrealistic to think that "Santas on the Move" will work the numbers we have now (which, btw, were most glorious and impressive)
Much Love,

Re: Santa Con NYC
Sat, December 27, 2008 - 11:46 AMThats santarchy for you.
The only disjointedness was whoever decided to tell everyone to go to Grand Central. The NYC santacon locations are never EVER announced ahead of time, and for a lot of very good reasons, some of which are the police, and the fact that the route often changes midday due to unforseen circumstances without anyone but the organizers being aware of it.
I find it hard to imagine there will be only one santacon next year. Space is limited, as we tapped over 5,000 this year. Not texting is a way to cut down on numbers and slackers. (and as you may recall the year before the texting caused all sorts of fucked-uppedness and everyone ended up lost in the east village)
Besides, the party is wherever santa goes. Trains are limited due to the fact it would take 5 trains to get everyone anywhere, and by the time the last santa got there the first santa would be ready to leave. Feel free to work on that solution.
See you next year.
ho ho ho. -

Re: Santa Con NYC
Mon, January 5, 2009 - 10:04 AMYea, I think you guys need to be more inventive in keeping numbers down. I say start next year's in Coney or Riverdale at 10am.
I had no idea that Grand Central wasn't part of the route, but it sorta worked. The Staten Island Ferry was amazing.
The only thing that sorta caused chaos was the Rubulad stop. I think every destination should be close to a train, but that's my O. I ended up going anyway because that place is a $6 cab ride to my apt anyway.
Multiple Santacon routes would own, but I'd love to have all my favorites in one place. Stephan + the cool reindeer with the "free ride" signs, Hanukkah Harry, Hanukkah Chicken, and whats-his-face with the trumpet.

Re: Santa Con NYC
Wed, December 10, 2008 - 8:58 PMI've been going for years.
The Grand Central thing he was talking about happened last year.
What I was saying was that in 06, it was hard to keep track of the next stops because people weren't carrying the words "Santa's on the move!" They invented the text system in 07, but are doing away with them this year. I just hope it's easy to keep track of where to go, because some of the folks in 06 were just not helpful in carrying messages.
Can't wait, either way!

Thu, December 11, 2008 - 5:14 PMI'm debating between:
The santa fallen victim to a drunken santa stampeed... (ripped up suit, deer & foot prints, twigs in hair, black eye...)
Pissed off jewish kid (pajamas, dradle, school supplies...)
shopping tomorrow! -

Re: Santa Con NYC
Thu, December 11, 2008 - 8:53 PMOh, I say the jewish kid. I was considering the kid idea since I have a fleece one-sie with feet. Highly recommend it. nice and toasty, I wear it on the playa too. Get one in the kids section at target. \
Looks like its going to be a cold day Saturday. Like in the 20's so be prepped to bundle up! -
